Hours after Pope Benedict XVI asked Catholics to consider whether their faith might be more like vinegar than wine, Bishop Salterelli presented the diocese’s first Order of Merit Awards to more than 140 people whom he labeled “vintage
wine.” He stated “I wanted to shout to the Holy Father, Come, join us….. And I will show you some vintage wine.” He continued saying that a diverse group of women and men from throughout the diocese received the awards for service to their parish. They had been nominated by their pastors in recognition of “all the good you have done and continue to do”.

Bishop Malooly is continuing with presenting this Order of Merit Award and, this past Sunday, Oct. 19th, our own Anne and Wayne Wilberding were the first from our Parish to receive the award from Bishop Malooly. Any of us who know Ann and Wayne know how worthy they are of this award. To mention all they do for this
parish would take more than this column to fill. We are grateful to them for their continued service and, along with this award, we thank them for all they do for us and recognize that they are our “vintage wine”.

God bless you always and thank you,
Anne and Wayne !!!!!

Those pictures are from the opening of Fraternity Campaing 2008 whose theme was ``Chose life, then... `` (Dt.30, 19).

The Fraternity Campaing is one way that the Conference of the Catholic Bishops of Brazil use yearly to educate Catholics about the important moral issues affecting the world, and to pray for them during the special time of Lent. It starts Ash Wednesday and finishes Easter Sunday. Steve Pelypec, a member of the council, and his wife are working (full time I believe) in Brazil in anti-abortion programs.
